September 11, 2012
“As the nation marks the 11th anniversary of September 11, 2001, I join with the people of the City of Atlanta to reflect upon the tragic events and senseless loss of life that occurred. The terrorist attacks plunged our nation into grief, but that dark day also unified and reminded us to never take our freedom for granted.
As Mayor of Atlanta, I stand with all Atlantans, Georgians and Americans as we remember those whose lives were needlessly cut short on September 11, 2001. We share the sorrow of so many who lost family members and friends as a result of those horrible attacks.
Today, we acknowledge and thank the first responders who courageously sacrificed their own safety in order to keep so many others safe. We also thank the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have fought against terrorism and who have brought justice to those responsible for those heinous attacks.
Finally, we must remember there are still those who seek to do us harm, and therefore, we must remain vigilant for the safety and well-being of our families, neighbors and fellow Americans. This day of national remembrance is a powerful reminder that we are stronger when we stand together. God bless America.”
