I am excited to share a personal milestone with you. This month, I am featured on the cover of Delta SKY magazine and the City of Atlanta is highlighted in a 65-page special section. The magazine reaches 5.1 million people per month and is placed on every Delta Air Lines plane in the world. This is truly an incredible opportunity to showcase the city we all love so much. I was especially honored to reflect on the continuing legacy of the Civil Rights Movement and discuss my experiences growing up in the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Fifty years after the March on Washington, I am proud to say that Atlanta continues to be a city that values freedom and equality, and makes good on the promise of the dream today.
We have accomplished much together over the last three years. Despite challenging economic times, we have hired more than 800 police officers, passed four consecutive balanced budgets without tax increases and increased the city’s cash reserves to more than $127 million. We are also creating jobs and improving neighborhoods. And our efforts to support children and families can be seen in the recreation centers we re-opened throughout the city and have transformed into Centers of Hope.
Your past support and our clear progress emboldens my belief in what we can accomplish together as a city. Serving as the Mayor of the Atlanta has been the greatest privilege of my career, and I would not be here without you.
