Today I’m in Panama with Sen. Isakson and Vice President Biden. We’re here to see first hand how the Panama Canal is being expanded to accommodate modern cargo ships and to discuss the importance of making sure the Port of Savannah is updated to meet these same standards.
The port deepening will be Georgia’s largest economic development project and the positive impact on Atlanta cannot be overstated. The project will fuel the state, region and city’s economic growth, strengthen our global competitiveness, and accelerate Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s expansion as a leading logistics and cargo hub.
Modernizing our infrastructure will ensure that Atlanta continues to attract more and better jobs, and further solidifies our role as a leader in creating economic opportunities for all. I am honored to be part of this delegation, and excited about what the future holds for Atlanta.
